Bamboo Shoe Bench (getabako or kutsubako)

This is our latest shoe bench design - the Takebako (tah-kay-bah-ko). In Japanese "take" means bamboo and "bako" means box. We are pretty excited about this shoe bench since it is our first one made entirely of environmentally friendly bamboo! The version shown is made using amber bamboo and features black painted sides to give the piece a lot of visual interest. We will also be offering this shoe storage bench in solid color versions in both the natural and amber bamboo. This is available now through Aikomei.

This is our Tansu II style entry way storage bench shown here in a combination of solid Jarrah for the legs and trim, Maple plywood for the cabinet and bamboo (Plyboo) for the top. (Ask about the availability of other woods. We are always open to suggestions.)

The Tansu II is our most basic model. It also features an adjustable shelf which the Tansu I does not.

Tansu Shoe Bench

This deluxe Japanese Tansu inspired shoe bench is done in quartersawn White Oak and Wenge. The side and rear panels are book matched solid wood flat panels. The shelves are oak plywood trimmed in solid wood. The design features mortise and tenon construction. The client for this unit bought it to use as a coffee table.

This Tansu shoe storage bench is done in quartersawn White Oak and Jarrah. Jarrah is a beautiful reddish Australian eucalyptus variety. The side and rear panels are book matched solid Jarrah flat panels. The benches are thoroughly tested.

These are our Katsu shoe benches (getabako or kutsubako). Having a shoe bench is also nice for putting the shoes back on. The sides of the Katsu shoe bench are made with plywood trimmed in solid maple. The tops shown are solid walnut (left) and cherry (right). The shelves are plywood trimmed in solid wood. All of our products can be made in your choice of woods and can be adjusted to your specifications for an additional charge.

Currently we are not producing this model. We are redesigning them at this time to make them more cost efficient to produce. 1/2008

For those who prefer a larger storage unit we can also make shoe cabinets. The shoe storage cabinets can be made with or without doors. We can also for an additional charge make these products using environmentally friendly bamboo plywood (we use Plyboo).
